Philco Fiction — “Horizon” mp3

Scandinavia has a certain mysticism surrounding it: Jens Lekman love, Peter Bjorn & John sensitivity, Jose Gonzalez affection, yet a region where the darkest, most brooding black metal resides (with the best music videos). The northern portion of Europe is full of contradictions. With the highest rates of happiness and personal freedom in the world, they also have the highest suicide rate. Here, we have a singular vision of simply put pop from Oslo’s Philco Fiction. No Fear of Pop exclusively presented their newest single, “Horizon,” today from the trio’s newest album, Take It Personal, due out October 7 on Brilliance Records.

Michael Kiwanuka — “I’m Getting Ready” video

There’s something peculiar about the British soul singer Michael Kiwanuka’s “I’m Getting Ready.” With guitar that sounds like Dylan’s “Corrina, Corrina” and some voice that really reminds me of Van Morrison, too. I don’t know – that sort of sounds like a stretch to put out there, especially when I’ve only heard this track from him. But, I’ll take it right now, and I might throw it out in a month like I did for every Magnet single for the last three years. Oh, wait. The Wiki page for Kiwanuka says he’s been compared to “Bill Withers and Otis Redding, as well as Van Morrison and The Temptations.” Not bad, fella. Check out his blog, where he posts some youtube clips here and there and some for the taking, and a live clip of “I’m Getting Ready” on the Isle of Wight. His I’m Getting Ready EP is available via iTunes, so just download it illegally like everyone else.  Watch “I’m Getting Ready” below.
