WATCH: Toro y Moi — “Light Black” [City of Music]

November 11, 2011

I have a good relationship with Toro y Moi. I think I was addicted to Causers of This in the summer of 2010. I remember walking to work in the dead heat of summer, and bouncing my legs to the breaks and backbeats that flourished throughout the album, and on the way home, with the crickets splaying and the sun descending, I’d pick up where I left off, only to start it the album all over again. Day in, day out, Toro y Moi. Now, with a little steam from this years Underneath the Pine  and some trippy videos there’s no stopping the multifaceted producer/musician from Columbus, South Carolina.
Chaz Budnick & co visited Minneapolis recently to record a live session with video producers City of Music. “Light Black” reveals the psychedelic undertones the band has recently sought to pursuit. With mirrored shots, distorted color fixtures, and a heavy rhythm section over trippy synths. You can watch the performance via Pitchfork TV right here.
