STREAM: Sleigh Bells’ Album Reign of Terror

February 14, 2012

mp3 & stream

Does this shit remind you of snowboarding yet? After releasing 2010’s Treats, Brooklyn’s Sleigh Bells received notoriety both critically and pop-culturally from their single “Tell ‘Em.” The song was pretty rad, heavy and eventually picked up steam this year for the X-Games (Shaun White???). Because they would find it two years later after some intern accidentally slipped the fuzz on at a holiday party or something.

Today, The New York Times is the sole proprietor of their newest album, Reign of Terror. Under the headline of “The Indie Band Sleigh Bells’ New Album, ‘Reign of Terror,’ I’m not quite sure how much longer the opportunity to call the over-stylized (on the brink of cliché) duo can be deemed “indie” or if they ever were.

Reign of Terror brings the kitsch that resonated so well on Treats. Alexis Krauss sings in a sexy-hush over Derek E. Miller’s thick, distorted guitar licks that sound over-processed, marginalized, and (this time around) quite boring.

Here’s the really long article where streaming Reign of Terror is available.

To promote the February 21st release of their second LP, Sleigh Bells will perform on Saturday Night Live this weekend.

Oh, and here’s that commercial:
